digital photo frames

Re:smarter displays.
Trying to brainstorm all the ways one might setup a way for families to keep their digital pictures archived and updated. Just read a neat book called Sharing Digital Photos: The Future of Memories by Dane Howard wherein www.ceiva.com is mentioned as the main provider of digital photo receivers --- but I, of course, was looking for something that might push mpeg2 too. Here's what I came up with-- do you know of any other routes one might explore?

First there's www.ceiva.com-- As I understand it, it looks like that's about $149 ($99 w rebate) for 1) setup of a 5x7ceiva2screen- then 2) $9.95 permonth subscribers fee. Advantages: automatic refresh of media nightly (as long as theiri server stays up), Disadvantages: phone modem speeds- thus only good for stills)

I searched ebay for digital photo frames and found these alternates--
1) 5.6" LCD TFT Digital Photo / Video Frame *Brand New* GBP 51 ($93US)
Upside: no subscr. service, memory card/MPEG2 capable

2) Digital Picture Photo Frame 5.6" LCD USB Display Screen $279

Anybody got a better idea for helping clients share digital photos and video?

Thanks much in advance,

How many of these clients don't already have a PC and internet access? It strikes me that services like ceiva.com are something who's time has already come and gone.

How about an old laptop? Might be in the $300 to $400 range but would have a larger screen. It would not need very much horse power to just display photos.
