Digital Video tape recorder question for the Doctor....

....or anyone else who knows...
Check this out:

I saw this thing over at Best Buy the other day for $999. It has 1394 in/out on the back and 1394 in on the front. Does anyone know if this thing can be controlled using Vegas? Since it's backwards compatible with the older VCR tapes, it might be another way to capture your old videos but would it allow you to print to tape straight to the old VCR tapes?
This is more of a curiosity than anything else...just another potential toy for a guy who likes gadgets... Interesting nonetheless...

James,

That looks like an interesting product. First thing I have seen that is even close to affordable that could record and playback HDTV. The first Vegas user who gets this thing should give us a full report. I think this will be yet another challenge to Vegas' current 800x800 limitation. Maybe SoFo should fix that in a Vegas Video 3.0d release.

I'd be wary of JVC equipment. Their products have a high failure rate. Just my personal opinion.

They also have some goofy setup procedures and hookup methods.

In addition, be aware that there are about a dozen different resolutions that legally qualify as HDTV, only ONE of them is the true 1920 x 1080i, so becareful if that is what you are expecing. ALL the others are less.
