DIrect output to analog monitor

I don't have access to a DV camera right now which is how I norammly output the preview to my monitor. Is there any other device I can use such as a internal card to directly feed my monitor? THe preveiw window in VV really is hard for me to use now that I am getting the close to finishing my project.

Robert,

Well, since Vegas sends your preview to the FireWire port, you need to pick it up there. As an alternative to using your DV camcorder to convert the DV to analog for the TV, you could get the Canopus ADVC100 two-way realtime analog/DV conversion box. It is external to your computer and connects to your FireWire port in lieu of using your camcorder. It might be a good idea even if you did have access to your camcorder, because it costs less ($289) than the camcorder, and takes "wear and tear" off of your camcorder, and lets your camcorder be elsewhere. There are other external realtime converters (Dazzle for example) but the Canopus unit has several satisfied users here on this forum. In fact, if you have been getting the SonicFoundry catalogs in the mail, it is always listed in there. In the Winter 2002 catalog it is at the top of page 7.

Ok, here's the poor man's way to do it. It's also how I do it ;?)

1) Get a nVidia card with TV out.
2) Enable "Clone", enable Overlay "Secondary Display" (that's your TV).
3) Get a really fast-rendering YUV codec (I use huffyuv, you have to set 16-bit screen resolution on your monitor and "Convert to YUY2" as your RGB compression method). I also use 320x240 res for speed.
4) When you want to preview a section, choose "Preview in Player" (I use Media Player 6.4 as default), "Render Loop Region Only" and go for it.
5) Rendering takes a little while depending on your CPU, but it will pop up on your TV and play.

There are previous threads on this forum that discuss the external
monitor configuration to infinite proportions.Use the search function.

Find a used Sony DVMC-DA2 Sony media converter. It works both ways and has both composite an S-video in/ouputs.
