disappearing audio in vegas video 2.0 ...

sony vaio f590 laptop
750 mhz
128 megs ram
18 gig hard drive
windows me

the issue is that everytime i open an avi file in vegas it
will open the full length of the video clip and half the
audio... meaning ill have a full video track and the audio
will cut out right in the middle for no apparent reason...
ive played the files back with windows media player and the
sound plays throughout the entire clip... ive even opened
them in adobe premiere and windows movie maker and they
play fine with full sound... ive used vegas on 2 other
systems and have never seen this problem (one with 98se and
one with ME).. even an uninstall and reinstall didnt fix
it.. i would try the update , but that causes even more
issues.. this happens with every single avi file that is
opened no matter how short the file is.. and if i reopen
the same file twice the audio will disappear at the exact
same position.. please help me with this..i have paying
clients who are depending on me in 3 days to get a project
done for them..

thank you..

haaaaa, this just reminded me of the quote In this month's "Sonic
Foundry" catalog I received.

Vegas Video: "Aimed squarely at the users of Adobe Premiere, Vegas
Video is both easier to use and more powerful."

They forgot the rest though: "But Adobe Premiere actually works and
you might want to stick to that for the time being, until we can get
all the bugs worked out." This forum, is really entertaining hearing
about all the little blunders....I have a feeling V2.0b will be in
a "pre-release" state for awhile now.

i can get more work done with a bug riddled vegas video in an hour
than i could do with a slow dissovle rendering , screwy GUI having
adobe premiere in 8 hours...

And I second that! Even though Vegas seems to absolutely detest
certain Direct-x-plugins (which seems rather funny, since a plugin
shouldn't be able to crash the entire program) I will never ever
regret scrapping Premiere for Vegas. Premiere is simply too old, too
unintuitive, too boring, too amateur for audio purposes.

Vegas rocks, and will rock even more once they get their bugs sorted
out.
