good question, it's not like apple has ever dropped the ball on its own user base in the past

I missed out on this years show, but was impressed that Sony gave Vegas a good boost last year. I haven't seen much comment on this, but the new top dog at Sony has a goal of leveraging the synergy of Sony products. Evidently, there's been some stockholder apprehension at Sony not getting the most mileage out of its various product lines. It looks to me like the convergence of Vegas 6 with HDV is just where Sony's aiming Vegas integration with the hardware line. This should bode well for Vegas' future.

Just got back last night at something like 4:30 in the morning and man it's good to be home !

I certainly can't dispute that the Vegas booth was a wee bit smaller than I had hoped for but having said that, I never mind being the underdog. On a high note I've gotta say that the postproduction seminars were awesome and Vegas was defiantly in high profile and I overheard quite a few people buzzing about Vegas in the halls. Its one thing to preach to the converted but it seems that many hadn't really considered Vegas as a viable option before attending one of the many sessions that, if not focused specifically on Vegas, at least mentioned it. And lastly, not sure about anyone else who attended the users party but the turnout and enthusiasm were borderline overwhelming.

A huge thanks for Spot, Mannie and the entire Vasst team for not only allowing me to be involved, but for busting their asses to make sure everything went smooth and that Sony Vegas was well represented. Great job all, it was fantastic to be able to meet a bunch of you there and to be part of an incredible few days in Vegas with Vegas.

B_JM, along the lines of bluray, the cell processor has been under serious attack the last couple of months, with Microsoft, and with Intel, weighting in against it and claiming that Sony is giving them the gaming market, of course killing the bluray playstation. It looks the northwest water supply must be "contaminated with some old 60's LSD". Of course, Sony directly marketing movies downloads without Microsoft's direct involvement, is not setting well with MS.

What would be nice to know or be a bug on the wall, is what is happening with China's on2 talks with Sony and Philips. the EU and Asia market deal could rearrange HD format for at least 2/3s of the world.

gates has pretty much always been against the asian market because they don't want to be controled by the west (basicly, they are using Linux & bill doesn't like that).

But, i'm betting sony doesn't really give a ratts butt about selling movies with blue ray to end users. They see that the PS3 will be CD, DVD, HD-DVD & BlueRay compatible. The new games will be blue-ray (more space has always been a selling point for game devs. Load time is a distance second). It will play every movie format out there, & will support the old PS1/2 games (possibly PSP too).

PS1/2 games are extreamily easy to copy & use and blue ray is the way around it. Sony would hold the tech & release it to developers (like nintendo with the gamecube discs). No public blue-ray burners, no game piracy. It will be betacam all over again but inside the game industry. Gamers will belive that 50gb will yeild better games & that the PS3 is better then the next MS machine & Nintendo machine (don't belive me? go to ANY game forum). Sony (along with Microsoft) also plans to turn game creation into an assembly line process & this fits that idea. To make effieient use of the $$$ put into the tech they need lots of products. Normal game creation takes years & almost (and sometimes more then) a movie production. Just like movies, the process needs to be more automated.
