In Windows Explorer (not in Vegas' Explorer), right click on the drive icon for this drive. Select "Properties." You will see Used Space, Free Space, and Capacity.

What Capacity is reported?

John:

Yes, Windows knows it's a 500 gb disc (465, actually). Only Vegas capture thinks it's 250GB.

Hmm... No idea. Sorry.

This actually rings a bell and i remember there was a thread about this a while ago. I don't believe there was any resolution.

It's obviously not the case all the time. I have 500GB drives and VidCap shows all of it available.

I just tried to search, but didn't find anything. However, I do remember a thread about not being able to capture more than 24 hours because of how Vegas keeps track of time. However, at 13 GB/Hr. for DV, 24 hours only comes out to 192 GB, so that isn't it.

I'll look a little more and post if I find something.

I wonder if vid cap would stop at 250 GB in a capture, or just keep going?

I'm planning on capturing a bunch of Beta SP tapes, and got the Intensity pro, but have found 2 problems:

1 the card does not have a sync function, but john says this ought to work anyway.

2 Vegas does not seem to be able to tell the card to capture MJPEG, only uncompressed. I have 2.5 hours of material, and that would be a lot of gigabytes.

another question is, since I''m ultimately going to DVD, how good does my captured footage have to be? would uncompressed give me any better quality? Would MJPEG have noticeable problems?

Returning the Intensity and buying the twice as costly Decklink SP would apparently solve the current problem, but would be investing in an obsolescent format.....
