Displaying subtitles too long

Wieslaw-Walczak wrote on 11/11/2020, 1:04 PM

Hello! I am asking for help regarding the problem with subtitles on the DVD video. The problem is that the subtitles appear on the TV screen for too long. In DVD Architect everything looks fine on the computer, while on TV there is this problem. If anyone knows the solution to this problem, please help me. Thanks a lot for any suggestions. Wieslaw

Can you post a screen capture of your DVD Architect timeline, zoomed into one of the subtitles that is giving you trouble?

Also please post which version of DVDA you are using.

Hi!

Thank you for responding to my request. I'm sending screenshots with the version of my DVD Architect and a portion of the timeline of the DVD containing the subtitles.

If you still need any information - please write me. I can only answer in the afternoon, because I am at work until 3 p.m.

Best regards,

Wieslaw

If I remember correctly, Version 6 had some issues. I don't know if subtitles were one of them, but you might search this forum for this problem.

Are you saying that when you play the video, the subtitles stay on screen longer than they appear on your timeline? Does this happen when you preview your disc in DVD Architect or only after you burn your disc? And if the latter, does it happen when you play your BluRay on your computer or only on your TV?

It looks like this:

- in DVD Architect subtitles are displayed correctly

- the recorded DVD video on the computer is also displayed correctly

- the same DVD in the player on the TV screen the subtitles are displayed longer than they are in the the DVDA timeline.

The text is then changed by the appearance of a new text. For comparison, when playing a disc bought in a store in the same player - everything is fine.
I don't understand it and I don't know what is the reason for this effect.

I only have an idea to insert text with one space after the text and before a long break without text. But that's not the way it should be.

It could be your disc player, since everything works fine on your computer. Home-burned discs save their data differently than commercial discs, and not all disc players can read them as well. (Sonys are notorious for not ready home-burneds well.)

Can you try it on a friend's disc player and see if the problem is there too?

Hi!

I checked playback my DVD on a my friend's Samsung player. Ther's everything is okay. Looks like my Sony player is showing long subtitles.

But I found a way to get this player of mine. In DVD Architect, after each subtitle before the long pause, I inserted very short a text event containing the 160 ascii character. This is a bit of work, but on my player the subtitles are turned off when they should not be visible. It takes a little longer to compile such a DVD.

Why character with code 160? The DVDA doesn't accept only a space character (code=32), I was looking for another character that is invisible. Perhaps another is also possible, but I used 160.

Probably if I had a player other than Sony, there would be no problem. Oh yes - Sony player, DVDA also Sony and unfortunately there is a problem.

Thank you for your commitment, help and suggestions in the above topic. Best regards.

Wieslaw
