DisplayPort trouble....

set wrote on 12/22/2014, 4:00 AM
Anyone here using AMD ATI cards with DisplayPort connection?

I'm using Sapphire ATI Radeon HD5750 Series, driver Catalyst 14.9, as noted in my System#1.
I'm using Double DVI as first and second display, then for the 3rd one, I'm using conversion cable to VGA, where I still have older 23" Bravia LCD TV with VGA PC input).
This is the DisplayPort conversion cable I use: http://www.tokokabel.com/product/displayport-to-vga-adapter/

It works fine for about 2 weeks, but then this time when I turned on the computer, the 3rd monitor with DisplayPort connection didn't work. Usually after I restart, this monitor will turn on, now not anymore.

What to do.....?

I have 2 R9 290 in my system and I use the display port on one of them. I am not sure about your particular problem but is there a reason why you are using a DP-VGA adapter rather then a DP to HDMI?

Chance are your display conversion cable gone bad. Best you can do is to get another cable.

I have a 7850 & I bought this one: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B004SUELLC/ref=pe_385040_30332200_pe_309540_26725410_item

I want to say I bought that one because it was the recommended one by ATI. I bought it march of this year and have had no issues with it.

Just brought by my brother, tested on his PC, his card just had one DVI, and another 2 DisplayPorts only... The conversion cable broken....
*DUH! - So FAST ?! Really !? Hopefully I can have replacement....

The reason why I still use VGA is my 23" Sony Bravia didn't have any HDMI interface... It is my first HDTV during my early days of HD Production...

Weird... http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00092RBDI/n-yb-20#productDetails
I'm about to make a link of my old TV type: KLV-S23A10, and found the amazon link above, it says "Inputs: 3 composite, 3 S-Video, 1 component, 1 HDMI, 1 VGA"

But, I don't see any HDMI connection... Where is that??
Region product differences...?

I would use input 4 with a HDMI to composite cable and a DP to HDMI converter. I also don't see a PC VGA input in the pictures.

Edit: If the online manual is correct the HDMI input is number 5 on right hand side below the PC connector.

Yes, just checked every surface of the TV, and didn't found it.
I believe that's the best location for HDMI input module, as in Page 14, but my version here has only TV Tuner, which should be placed on the rear side, as pictured in Page 15...
Great... yeah, region differences, Early days of HD... didn't know HDMI that time.

OldSmoke, Composite or Component?
Does HDMI-to-Component can be easily converted with cable?
I read somewhere that said this didn't work because it is Digital and Analog.

Also, if Component-to-HDMI can be converted easily like this, will this work too for YPbPr-output cameras such like Canon XH-A1 or Sony FX1 ?

Because I'm in the middle of 'upgrading' my live multicamera switcher system, from SD to HD (Blackmagic ATEM) as well, and this is a good news to me, no need to purchase a more expensive Component-to-SDI conversion box!

HDMI component changers are available on the cheap at $50 US - but they are not a cable - they are a processor in line. Keep in mind that in the cheap, these are only partially capable - because you can lose control of the input versus output SAR and some quality..
OldSmoke wrote on 12/22/2014, 4:00 PM
I would try a cable first. That should be fine for a short distance and maybe up to 720p but a proper converter box is certainly better.

What might be a better idea is get a HDMI Female to VGA Male adapter, hook that up to your monitor, then get an active DisplayPort to HDMI adapter and connect both via a normal HDMI cable.

Since you already had it working with 3 monitors once before you know you need active, just making sure. :)

Just replace the cable, and back to business....
Thanks everyone, and good new info above... :)

Well, at least the monitor/TV still can do its' job, and I can left IEEE1394 SD Preview.
