Distortion

I shot a wedding video and I took a live feed from the DJ and connected it straight into the camera. The DJ did not have a zone out so I could adjust the audio as necessary. So I had to take a record out, into the camera. So when the DJ cranked up the master volume, the sound went even more distorted. When I played back the tape the audio is distored. Is there a way to fix this problem?

Thanks

Probably not, sorry to say. Once sound is distorted it's just about next to impossible to recover it.

For future reference, you should record the live feed to a separate device. That way you'll still have the audio from your camera's mic as a backup.

I actually recorded 1 channel from the camera mic and the other is the live feed. Is there any filter's or plugin's that I can purchase to adjust the distortion? Thanks

Take the audio that was recorded with the camera mic and use that.

You'll probably never recover anything useful from the board fed channel. Next time pad the feed -20db to -40db before plugging it into your camera because it is probably designed to accept only mic level input.

Again, once something is distorted there's not much you can do.
Maybe try to get the songs from the DJ or elsewhere and sync- them in Vegas with the camera mic track. Mix to taste and you will have the live feel of the event with the clarity of the CDs.
Time consuming maybe .. but.. your SOL with the distorted track.

Quite possibly very easy to fix, fixed many such problems.
Use the Clipped Peak Repair tool in Sound Forge, checkout my posts in the Vegas forum on how to get it to work.
So long as you were not too far over it'll be recoverable, it will not be perfect and just because you can fix it is no reason not to get your levels right.

Not to be a pessimist but.. if you fed line-level to the mic-level input, it's probably too far distorted for clipped peak restore to be of much help.
