DL Burning Problem w/ DVDA Studio 3.0

I am trying to burn a movie onto a DL DVD+R disc and I am having some trouble getting it to work.

The entire project prepares just fine (it comes out to around 5.4 GB), then the burning lead-in appears to work fine, but when the actual burning starts it happens almost instantaneously, followed by the burning lead out. I knew when I saw this that obviously the burn did not work properly, and sure enough, I have created 3 coasters so far.
Despite this, DVDA seems to think everything went fine, as it states that the burn completed successfully and asks if I want to burn another.

Anybody experience this problem before and/or have a solution? For the record, DVDA Studio 3.0b supports DL burning (and I changed the disc properties to 8.5 GB) and I am using an external LG DL burner.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

When you look at the disc in Windows Explorer, is there anything there at all?

It is odd. My regular, internal DVD+RW drive does not recognize any of the three coasters I created at all. But if I stick them in the external DL drive I used to burn the movie, it does recognize the disc.

However, the movie is still not on there. There are two folders on the DVD, as indicated in Windows Explorer, an empty Audio_TS folder and a Video_TS folder with the followin contents:

2 .BUP files
2 .IFO files
7 .VOB files, none of which are very big (4 of them are each 0.97 GB, the rest are all smaller).

If I double-click on any of these files, my DVD player on my computer launches, but nothing plays.

Any clues in this information? Thanks.

Thats the content you should have in your VIDEO_TS folder -- at least as far as what Windows Explorer can tell you. If you wanted to see if the the VOBs are good, drag the larger ones into Power DVD. Nero Speed might tell you if you have drive &/or media problems by comparing a test burn with what should be on the test disc.

Otherwise I've made a pain in the a** of myself saying *often* that anyone's maybe silly to buy DVDA for a burning, rather than DVD authoring program. But that's just my opinion... I've never tried to burn a disc in anything but a burning program since CD burners came out, and aside from bad media (when I got/get too cheap) haven't had hardly any coasters. [knock wood] ;?P

Hi, thanks for the reply.

So you are suggesting I prepare the entire project in DVDA, then burn it to a DVD using another program? (I have never had a problem burning in DVDA using single-layer DVD+R, only dual layer).

What program do you suggest I use to burn the prepare project, would Roxio MyDVD be a good choice? Thanks.

The most bullet-proof that I'm aware of for burning DL blanks is a free program called ImgBurn. I tried Roxio EMC9 once after I just got it, had poor results, & so stuck with ImgBurn for DL.

As far as rendering to hdd, there are what I feel advantages:
* You can test the DVD before committing to a burn.
* You can burn additional discs both easier & faster.
* You can alter or modify the DVD prior to burning (i.e. turning on CC support for example)
* Burning software can do bit-setting, so a +R DL will show up in a player as DVD ROM for greater compatibility.
* You can check for & correct errors in PgcEdit.
* And you're using dedicated, specialized software for burning. Search the forum and you'll find different posts where users have had problems burning -- I haven't seen that sort of complaint for Roxi, Nero, ImgBurn etc...
