Do BCC 2019 and Mocha Pro work well with Vegas Pro 16?

Martin L wrote on 12/7/2018, 4:04 AM

I just managed to completely uninstall Boris BCC9 (separate purchase) and BCC 11 units (that came with Vegas Suite 15). It took two weeks to figure out how to clean up. The two versions don't like each other and messed up my harddrive really bad.

Now I am considering purchasing an upgrade to BCC 2019 and Mocha Pro 2019 for OFX (like Vegas Pro). It's a lot of money and I would appreciate any comments on how well, or badly, they work with Vegas Pro 16.

And perhaps, how useful is Mocha Pro in day to day editing? Any thoughts appreciated.

They seem to work well, I purchased them last week on the extended Black Friday deals as a bundle 50% reduction (BCC 2019 and Mocha Pro 2019 for OFX), with this bundle I virtually got Mocha almost for free versus the 25% reduction on continiuum alone. I paid 547$ for both, which is still a lot for my wallet to spend on sw. At least the figure will be less in euros once converted, that is always a boost in morale 😬.

Mind you I am very novice on Boris, I am more used to Newblue.

I've found no problems thus far with upgrading from BCC 12 to BCC 2019 (OFX), and I also upgraded Mocha Pro OFX to 2019 during the Black Friday offer. Take into account that a cut down version of Mocha is available via most of the BCC 2019 OFX plugins (also in 12) which I have found extremely useful. For example, if you want to limit an effect to a particular area of the image, you can track via Mocha that particular area if it moves within the scene.

Re the full Mocha Pro OFX plugin, perhaps have a look at the Mocha Pro intro videos on Boris' website to see if the extra Mocha capabilities might make the purchase worthwhile for you. The Replace function has proven very useful for me on a number of occasions. For example, last year I took a 4K mp4 shot of an historic steam engine in Skagway Alaska, but a tourist walked in front of it as I was filming. Using Mocha Pro's Replace, I was easily able to remove the tourist from shot - it was one of those "it's a miracle" moment.

Oh, so that would work fine then? Or does W10 support it better than W7?

Dexcon wrote on 12/7/2018, 6:02 AM

Sorry, but it's impossible for me to tell because I haven't used any Boris product under W7, and I haven't had W7 installed on any computer for a long time now, certainly since W10 came along (2015 I think).

I finally purchased BCC 20190 and Mocha Pro 2019! I'm happy to say they work very well with Vegas 16 and my machine. The only thing now is for me to learn how to use them. :) It takes some time to learn Mocha and its integration with Vegas. I wish there were more and better video tutorials on that. It'll prabably take me a while before I master it, depending on how much time I can spend on learning.

@Martin L - there are some quite good tutorials on BorixFX's website re using the Remove tool in Mocha Pro - even the ones from a couple of years ago will almost certainly be applicable to the 2019 version.

With BCC 2019, hopefully you have also downloaded and installed the [amazing] Particle Illusion plugin as this plugin should also be part of the BCC 2019 package

Here everything is working properly.

I found it fantastic to include the Particle Illusion in the 2019 version of BCC. Better yet know that most effects come with a simplified version of Mocha Pro. It is always useful to be able to apply Motion Tracking and Mocha masking in some effects.

The mocha pro version 2019 came with redesigned inteface, but you can use the old inteface if you wish and some predefined tracking masks have been defined that speed up the tracking process.
