Do I gain anything by using the Microsoft WMV9 encoder product versus Vegas WMV9?

Pretty straightforward question. I assume that either program uses the same codec and probably has access to the same tweaks, but my assumption is that a program dedicated to compression would do a better job than Vegas, which is primarily an NLE.

Right?

Wait a second; looking through the Vegas selections, I can see right away that I have more flexibility with the Windows Media product. For example, I think the 320x240 video window is too small for my purposes, but the full 640x480 is overkill. With the Microsoft program I can specify an intermediate frame of 480x360.

I've formatted to WMP 8 and have used this on a PC with WMP. In fact this is how a piece of my work is being presented at an exhibition. I've also done a 27 min and it fits on a 20pence CD - great! I suppose it takes up about 520mb. The quality is great . . I can't tell the difference between this and MPEG2 .. apart from the fact I think the WMV file appears to be better . . if anything.
