It can be done either way, it doesn't matter. Vgeas 8 does not NEED V7, but then they don't conflict with each other either should you want them both on.
I have VP8 on order and will install as soon as it arrives, but I'm thinking I'll be keeping V7 onboard for some time. If for no other reason, than for "bug insurance" until the first update comes out.
I had VP8 and V7 installed and both ran fine. When I uninstalled V7 the Wave Hammer Surround plugin was removed. I reinstalled VP8 and everything was fine. I don't know why the Wave Hammer Surround plugin was removed.
Most (all?) of the default audio plug-ins are "shared" by all of the copies / versions of Vegas you have on your system. When you uninstall one, the uninstall apparently doesn't check to see if there is another copy of Vegas that needs those plug-ins.

That is what I thought. I have never had this happen with prior versions and the Wave Hammer Surround was the only plug-in removed. Presets were fine.
