do i still need canopus DV codec ??

SF has a excellent dv codec .. BUT only VV3 can use it.
i find this sort of ?? as VV2 used everybody's Dv codec ..IE: i alwasy wanted to use canopus dv codec -SF said no problem if i had a canopus product on my computer -VV could use canopus dv codec -same with all others products -if their product was on your computer VV could use their DV codec ..

when VV3 came out i thought i don't need to buy a canopus product because SF dv codec is excellent ..

HOWEVER at dv expo i was looking at commotion pro 4 and after effects ..when i asked commotion what DV codec does commotion use for rendering he said what ever codec your editing software uses/or is on your hd - you just choose it in pull down window - Now that's a problem because SF dv codec will NOT be among the choices !!! so i'm stuck using microsofts dv codec !! WHY ? going over to SF booth i was told SF has alot of R&D into the dv codec and they aren't about to give it away for FREE !!

VV2 used everybody's DV codec but SF will NOT let anybody use their DV codec ?

So i find myself agian looking at buying a canopus product so i can use their dv codec to use with commotion or after affects !!

using the ms dv codec is not a solution !!
any suggestion to get no generation loss other then buying a canopus product when using commotion/afer effects ?

Your best bet is to import into and render from Commotion as uncompressed- the files will be big but the quality will be as good as you can get.

You can still use the Canopus product if you wish. The codec is no better than SOFO's, there are render tests/comparisons to 25 times rendered media on the www.creativecow.com site.
Uncompressed files in either Quicktime or avi are what most compositors want to use regardless. The Canopus codec will read in Vegas, and you can render out to it. It will merely be slower as all media must be recompressed rather than just edits. Plus the preview will require a decode. Vegas is still format agnostic and resolution independent. They have NOT locked you into any one codec, if the codec will play out of Windows media player, then it will edit in Vegas. I run a REX RT right next to my OHCI card in the same machine.
