Do not Update XP SP1!!!

Hi, all

For those on the older platform; w98, w2k, ...etc.
Good for you, (hope)it doesn't affect you.

For user on XP, do not update XP SP1!!!!!!
You will experience 2 serious problem after installation:
1. Your WMV option will go Bonkers!!!
2. The most serious one, your CPU rendering power will be cut by half.
Most obvious symptom, try doing a single VV3 rendering & you will see the CPU giving only 50%.

Note: applies to both Dual Pentium & Dual AMD chip.

I tried this update on my laptop and it bombed out, had to re-install from the top, lucky all my files & programs were still intact after install.

Funny, I upgraded to SP1 and experienced none to the problems you're describing.

one reason for updates to fail is that some older update is missing in your system.
check on microsoft page for older updates. I've been there myself a few times...
WinXP is constantly being updated with security files.

No trouble here. But I've heard it's important to be sure to select the option to back up your old files so it can be uninstalled if something does go wrong. Not nearly as large a backup file as you might think - only about 200megs.

I think your CPU is normal for VV3. It never uses 100% of both CPUs like e.g. Premiere. I'm on a single CPU now but my rendering speed was unaffected by SP1.

On one system, SP-1 install "broke" my WMV encoding.
I had installed VV3 AFTER installing SP-1. I recommend having all apps installed before the SP-1 install.
I uninstalled SP-1, uninstalled VV3 >>>> Reinstalled VV3, then reinstalled SP-1. WMV encoding: "fixed".

At least SoFo has been able to duplicate this issue finally.

My rendering times have been unaffected as well.

Hi All,

Sorry to mentioned that so far I'm testing only the Dual CPU system. Will proceed to test out the Single CPU later.

For now, those with Dual CPU will experience the problem.
