Do you use the audio features in Vegas or do you use a DAW?

I am hoping that Acid PRO 7 is updated as I know how to use it, but if not I would like to get a 64 BIT DAW - use one for MIDI as many of the tools in audio tools in V14 are very good. If only V14 could work work with MIDI I would not need a DAW. What DAW do you use and can you access it from the menu system?

I use Vegas for basic audio and Cakewalk Sonar for more involved. (or actual recording of music instruments)

I have a casio PX-5s and use it and acid to produce background music. Actually Acid PRO does what I want but if it is a dead product I will change to a more current program.

A related recent discussion is here. Note the comments in that thread about Reaper being modeled on Vegas. It does MIDI, there's a 64-bit version and it does some things Vegas can't, like VST3 support.

I have Reason and like it, but haven't yet used it much. I plan to, as I have auditioned enough stock music for one lifetime (If I have to use crappy music it may as well be crappy music I've created myself). Reason doesn't support VSTs though, without workarounds.

Just a note, Reaper is not free. The 60 day trial is free.

Oops. Thanks. Changed my comment. I might have been getting confused with Audacity.

I use Vegas to create music based on loops because this program can perfectly use the features of ACID loops, you should not forget this. If I need to use VSTi or MIDI, Reaper is the program.

I too use Sonar, but I've been doing audio for a long time and pretty new to video. One thing I really love though is I can export an audio track even in a rough mix stage, then later re export to the same file name overwriting it and any edits done in Vegas (regarding placement or cuts) remain in place.

Think I'll give Magix sometime to release Acid 8 Pro. I have MS13 suite (SoundForge and Acid 10 light) and also I have Acid PRO 7 so I can just keep using those for now as my real needs are actually done by them since I can use them with Vegas PRO. But If in another six months or so no Acid PRO 8, I'll just get reaper as it appears to do all I need and being a 64 bit program could do some of my attempts at long scores bet than the 32 bit stuff I have. Thanks everyone for the input.

Although I was successful at mixing two feature films in Vegas, I do wish Magix would optimize the audio engine. There are many challenges to overcome especially when mixing in surround with a bunch of plugins and automation. Those include audio dropouts, stutters and buffering problems. If Magix fixes those Issues, it will leave many NLE's in the dust concerning surround mixing.

I am a Vegas user since version 6.0. I have been demoing Reaper for the past few weeks and will be buying it. It is not a free program but at 60.00 compared to other program costs I consider it almost free. I am not the brightest bulb in the box and my transition from Vegas to Reaper has been very easy. Many of the same functions and pretty easy to figure out. Many helpful tutorials and a helpful community. If Magix gets their act together on the audio side of Vegas I may update it and use both programs but at 60.00 Reaper is a steal.

Not mutually-exclusive...
I use Vegas for Audio (along with Sound Forge), but also use Magix Music Maker and Samplitude with a M-Audio MIDI controller.
