Spot,
I got a tape stuck in my DR-5 deck so I will be taking it in Monday to my local repair place. I will ask them if they have any digital dead bodies around. (Lerro) they have a big repair center. Does it have to be a prosumer type size?

If they have something, I will email you. Shoot me a good email addy to get to you if this helps.

Spot,

I have a Hi-8 cam (Sanyo I think) somewhere if that helps...mind you shipping it over from Spain might be a little pricey (and subject to import duties?)

Either one would work, guys, although I'd prefer DV over Hi-8. Beggars can't be choosers. The only thing it can't be is VHS. I've got one of those, we tried making that one work. No go...

How quick do you have to have it? I saw a slew of "for parts" ads on eBay the other day. They were going for less than $10.

Spot--

I have an old Canon ZR-40 that's been nothing but trouble. You can have it for the cost of shipping...
(and maybe one of your training DVDs, if you've got any extras lying around! ;)

E-mail me off-line if you want it-- dave_kuznicki@wgte.pbs.org

Spot, just curious what "video effect" your going for? Sounds interesting to a guy that's a bit of an FX nut.

David, can that Canon ZR-40 work as just a digital video passthru? You know, a dedicated not really functional minidv cam that you can use for monitor previews ? If so, I might be interested in that if Spot takes a pass on it.

Stone--

Spot already claimed it... and it won't really work as a pass-thru. The firewire port (assumably) is shot, and damned if I can figure out why! I battled with Canon for literally a year and a half over different issues with this thing; hell, I sent it back to them FIVE times since October '02, due to different issues-- 3 of those times, the camera just completely shorted out, twice for the firewire port.
I've just given up & written it off as a loss at this point. And different divisions or not, I steadfastly refuse to buy any product from Canon again-- I won't even buy photo paper from them.
Which is not to say that Canon is bad for everyone (I've heard plenty of good stories, in all fairness), but my experiences have been nothing short of infuriating... and all for nothing, as the camera never got fixed!

David.
