Does MOV support require additional purchase?

I received an error message from VMS9 when I tried to load a .mov file - saying that Quicktime was not properly installed and must be installed including the authoring compenents.

This might be a really basic noob question, but does Vegas not support .mov files out of the box without also purchasing a version of Quicktime authoring software?

The free version of QuickTime works fine. Just make sure when you install it you include all optional parts. Have you downloaded a relatively recent version of QuickTime? I think they're up to 7.1 or 7.2 something now. It could be that Vegas 9 is looking for the more recent versions of QuickTime.

It's 7.5.x I think...

There are certain QuickTime files that are causing crashes if you have updated to the newest version of QuickTime 7.7.5. In order to resolve this issue, please reinstall the previous update of QuickTime, version 7.5.0, located here: http://www.apple.com/support/quicktime/

Thanks for all of the suggestions particularly as to desired version number.

Does the free version of Quicktime from Apple include "authoring" components?
Or is there a free version on the VMS install disk, which you would upgrade at the Apple site?

I think I just had whatever was installed by default, I don't remember selecting anything optional.
