Does Sony Media Converter work better than Dazzle Bride for VV

My primary purpose in using VV is to output shows to VHS tape.

I have been pondering my purchase of VV 3 for awhile. Now that I see the upcoming patch, I am getting more serious about purchasing.

I thought I read awhile back that for VV, the Sony Media Converter (for the firewire port) seems to work better with VV than Dazzle's Hollywood Bridge. Is that correct?

As soon as Sonic comes out with that patch, I'll be buying. I hate having to work out bugs on new software, so I thought I would wait. I also had to get over x-mas expenses as well.

Thanks!

Pat

The Sony converter is fantastic! I don't think i could live without mine ;-)
It does have two points to consider though: 1) it only does NTSC and not PAL, and 2) it's been discontinued. Oops.
B & H Photo/Video still has a few in stock though ... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/

From what i've seen of Dazzle, they seem focused on the low end home user market. I see lots of reports in this forum that indicate it's just not up to the task. There are others available though. I see the new Canopus unit (DV1000? or something like that) mentioned in here quite favorably. Also, if you have a DV camcorder with a pass-through mode (and almost ALL of them support firewire -> analog conversion) then you can just use that for your VHS output conversion.

I was using Hollywood DV Bridge & now I switched to the Canopus ADVC-100. It does a fantastic job. The dazzle has problems if there is the slightest glitch on the tape, the sound goes haywire & the picture starts to roll & stops leaving a split screen appearance. I never worked with the sony but I have heard nothing but good reviews on it.

I have the Sony and have had nothing but good things to say about it. It's to bad that they, Sony, discontinued it. I was looking forward to the next generation someday. Cheers
