Does upgrading affect a current project?

Hello,

I'm looking to possibly upgrade from VP15 to VP20. I've tried searching, but I couldn't find any information on how this affects current projects. For example, I'm working on a video in VP15 at the moment, but I'm very interested in using Bezier masking, which my version does not have. If I upgrade, will I keep all of my current progress and have it imported just fine into the new software? Or should I look to finish my current project before upgrading to avoid any risks?

Apologies if this is a dumb question, I don't know much about the upgrading process at all.

Thanks for the help!

@KToon You should be fine, as all versions are usually backward compatible. However, most are not forward compatible and won't open projects saved with a previous version.
Ideally, finish the project first, but if you can't, at least make a seperate copy before opening it with VP20. This way, you can finish the project in VP15 if things go wrong.
I'm pretty sure I'm right in this, but no doubt someone will chime in and correct me if I'm wrong.

Thank you! And, to clarify, when I purchase the upgrade to VP20, I'll still keep my VP15 software?

If so, then I'll certainly just do what you said and keep a copy of the project on VP15!

I have 15, 19 and 20 working side by side, so yes you can keep using 15.

What Jack said is right about compatibility.

...and even within the same version, updating won't let you go back to a previous build and open the same project.

So if I am editing a project from a previous build, I give it a name with the build number included, effectively renaming the project.

On this laptop, I have 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, 19, and 20 all installed. On my previous laptop, I have 5, 7, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17, 18, and 19 all installed and working. It doesn't matter how many versions you have installed.
