Does Upshift increase rendering speed?

I know that Upshift will help with the speed/ease of editing AVCHD files. Will it also help with the actual rendering speed?

Upshifted AVCHD files will render out significantly faster than the original AVCHD files would have rendered had they been used on the original timeline, yes.

The upshifted video won't smart-render though, or at least I haven't figured out how to make it smart-render.
