Does Vegas support Duo Processor

Just wondering if Vegas (esp. v8) takes advantage of the duo processor chips?

If not, will I get slower results from a duo processor 2Mhz than with a 3.2Mhz single processor. Logic tells me things will slow down if software only uses one slower processor, but technology advancements would make me think all should run faster.

Hm.

Whoops... I guess I should read specs first. Search came up with nothing, but Vegas specs had this.

Editing and Workflow Features
* Improved multiprocessor rendering
* Dual processor DV rendering support

Yes, Vegas supports Duo and Quad processors. Quite well, in fact.

Using the "rendertest-hdv.veg" file (available in the link below), my old 3.2Ghz P4 took almost 20 minutes to render the test, a 2.66Ghz Core2 Duo takes just over 4 minutes and my 2.66Ghz Quad takes right at 2 minutes.

Thanks John... interesting thread, and lots of good replies.

I guess my old Inspiron 9100 with Intel 4 at 2.8Ghz and 1M-RAM isn't too bad compared to some of results listed there. I got 2 min 50 sec, and may have run faster if I wasn't having problems.

I like the idea of 12-14 seconds, so perhaps it's time to replace the 9100 monster with a lighter, cooler (temperature not fade), duo processor. Dell wants $239 for new graphics card, so perhaps...

Unfortunately, there is no way that a 2.8Ghz P4 is going to render the "rendertest-hdv.veg" file in 2 minutes 50 seconds. Did you render the "rendertest-hdv.veg" file as a MainConcept MPEG2 file using the "HDV 1080-60i" template?

Regardless, a Duo processor is going to smoke your current Inspiron 9100.

Yes and no, a lot of old stuff f.ex. chroma blur fx uses 1 of my 8 cores ;-( but f.ex sony avc render blueray hd it uses all my 8 cores.

Most of the effect and codecs are 2-4 cores (so my dual quadcore xeons are a bit wasted) but hope things will change soon.

Btw running on vista ultima 64bit with 8gb memory with Aja konan LHe and 2 x 5405 xeon cpus.

Even Microsofts new Expression Encoder just 4 cores ;-((
