Dolby AC-3 Pro in VP17 and 18?

From VEGAS Pro FAQs and TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDES, item 31 provides a workaround to get Dolby AC3 Pro to work in VP14 and later.

31. How can I enable the Dolby AC-3 Pro encoder from VEGAS Pro 13 in later versions?

The Dolby AC-3 Pro encoder was removed in VEGAS Pro 14. If you have VEGAS Pro 13 and DVD Architect installed, you can enable the encoder in VEGAS Pro 14 or later using this workaround.

A suggestion earlier on in the post was to copy/paste the ac3plug folder and rename it ac3studioplug (to replace the existing same named folder) and the contained .dll file to ac3studioplug.dll. It worked for me up to VP16, but neither method seems to work for me with VP17 or VP18, and I've attempted this on 2 different computers without success. The result is VP crashing either on opening (17) or selecting Render As (18).

Has anyone got AC3 Pro to work in 17 or 18? And if so, are there any tricks that can be recommended.

It looks very much like access to AC3 Pro is no longer an issue as it was some years ago and AC3 Studio is now okay for those who want Dolby AC3 but without selectable preferences.

Hi Dexcon, I find that AC3 only works up to VP16 for me, all .M2TS Sony footage from all our cameras, on the time line shows the tracks but does not play the sound hence not really practical to edit. I have to edit on VP16 suite which works but very crossed in paying money to upgrade to vegas-pro-suite 17 and unable to edit, are they expecting us to get rid of all our stock footage and hardware and upgrade with new hardware? Not to mention that a number of plug ins also become unusable and require re-licensing/upgrade.

@andreas-georgiou - That's AVCHD format right? I have no trouble editing my .M2TS footages here in VP18.

What happened to VP17 & VP18 when you drag these media?

Hi Set,

thanks for responding, it is footage imported via PlayMemories home from the camcorders (original .mts->.m2ts) have to set properties to 3D so that the two interleaved videos get imported to a single video track and I can edit that with no issues. (When vp17 was launched I couldn’t edit 3D and following complains to suport they addressed that, although not as good as previous versions)

the 5.1 surround sound tracks get imported on the timeline correctly but they show no peaks.

preview plays silent there simply is no sound, I logged this bug last year and was told it is an issue and it was passed to their development team, but nothing seems to have been done or both my laptop as well as my main pc are having issues (I don’t think so since Vp 16 pro works fine on both)

Were you playing AC3 Dolby 5.1 surround sound?

Need to test for AC3 5.1... Still have the old Sony NEX-VG20 / VG900 here... Let's see...

No trouble here... but I heard about avchd format issue from some users...

Have you try resetting VP17 ?

Right click on the media>Properties > General > scroll down to see what plug-in is used to reading the mts/m2ts media.

Is it mcplug2.dll or compoundplug.dll ? - Normally should be read using compoundplug.dll
