Dolby AC-3 Pro in VP17 and 18??

A suggestion earlier on in the post was to copy/paste the ac3plug folder and rename it ac3studioplug (to replace the existing same named folder) and the contained .dll file to ac3studioplug.dll. It worked for me up to VP16, but neither essay writer method seems to work for me with VP17 or VP18, and I've attempted this on 2 different computers without success. The result is VP crashing either on opening (17) or selecting Render As (18).

Has anyone got AC3 Pro to work in 17 or 18? And if so, are there any tricks that can be recommended.

Thanks in advance.

The OP has copy/pasted verbatim my post from 19 Oct 2020:

... without adding anything original of his own and with no attribution or link to the earlier post.

It's still a great question but really didn't garner anything specific to AC3 Pro rendering in either VP17 or 18 at the time.

My workaround that I've worked out since is to copy/paste the 'mixed' audio tracks of a finished project in VP17 or VP18 over to VP16 and just use VP16 for the AC3 Pro render. Though probably unnecessary, I'll also import the VP17/18 rendered video into VP16. Although inconvenient, I figure that its not all that much different to mixing/rendering a multi-track project outside of the NLE in Pro Tools or other post-production DAW.

I have restored the ability of VP18 to decode AC3 audio in a Mpeg2 file. You are on the right lines but thats not it.
I do not condone hacking normally but in this case I dont feel bad about restoring something I thought I had because I have paid via VP18,17,16,15,14 et al for this decoder. I'm not taking anything I couldnt do anyway, It's just making my life a little easier. However we dont know why it was removed, maybe good technical reasons and I shall remove when I've finished with my current project.
