You need to set the deinterlace method to something other than "none" in order for Vegas to downconvert 1080i properly.

Are you sure?? That sure doesn't seem correct. The interlace is going from TTF to BFF, but the video is interlaced at both ends (assuming we're talking about the FX1).

When I set the deinterlace method to "none", I get wavy vertical lines on fast motion, artifacts from resizing the deinterlaced comb pattern to a new size. When I set the deinterlace method to "interpolate" or "blend fields" I get nicely downrezzed footage. It makes an absolute world of difference! Yeah I'm absolutely positive.

I have similar issues any time I resize interlaced footage. For instance if I use Ultimate-S to blow up 4:3 footage to 16:9, if I have "none" selected as the deinterlace method, I get wavy vertical lines.

Laurence,

I have just the opposite results. I will post a link to my comparison later, but I was getting bad results for HDV to NTSC Widescreen DV and noticed my deinterlace setting was set to "Blend". I set it to none, and all the jaggies went away.

Were your project settings set to the timeline footage?
