I get this message when I click on the install for vegas pro 16 <%1 is not a valid application> I using windows xp

Is by chance your XP 32 bit? Recent versions of Vegas only run on 64 bit Windows.

All the later versions of VP (starting with 11 or 12 I think) require Win 7 or later.
FWIW, the last version of Sound Forge Pro that will run on Win XP is Pro 10. However, SF Pro 11. build 272 and before may, it runs w/o issue on Vista.
