Drive Reset error

First time trying to use DVDA with my brand new hp 300i burner.

During the lead in burn I get an error that the drive has been reset either by an app or a SCSI/IDE config error. Anyone got any ideas? Can auto insert notification cause this? I'm using a DVD+RW medium.

here's the full error message:

'SFMMCX'-(17)
'atapi'-(1)
-'HP DVD Writer 300n 1.25'-(1)
Module sfmmcx.cpp Line 1158
The drive state has changed.
A power-on reset or bus-reset has occurred.

I would need to know more about your system
OS, Ram, Processor(s), HD, MOBO etc.

But right off, you mentioned auto insert.
AI should be turned off on all cd/dvd drives.
Make sure your drives are set to DMA not PIO mode.

Q. When you write with other DVD software,
do you have any other error messages ?

Win2K, 1Gbyte RAMBUS DRAM, 1.5 GHz P4, IBM muthaboard in IBM netvista A60.

Autoinsert off makes no difference. Nero burns DVDs fine using the prepped files from DVDA.

I surfed other threads here - after getting the drive reset error a few times it changed to another error listed in at least one other thread that SoFo says will be fixed in the update in a few weeks. illegal command or something like that.

I'm getting the same error today and it's November 24, 2005. So I guess they aren't going to fix it.

I hooked up a USB external Sony DVD burner, worked fine. Must be some form of incompatibility with non-Sony hardware?

No, it's just incompatability with burners in general. DVDA has a terrible track record for working with various burners. People have even reported problems with it not working with Sony burners, so you happened to get lucky that it works with yours.
