dropped frames

Did you install the drivers that came with the hard drive and the card? I have read on Promise's website that Western Digital has its own drivers for Promise cards that come with its hard drives.
Here is the page to download Western Digital's drivers for the Promise Ultra 100 TX2: http://support.wdc.com/download/?cxml=n&pid=4&swid=8

See if it works after installing this driver!

And here is the Promise page about your card: http://www.promise.com/product/product_detail.asp?product_id=11

Another question: What was the size of the Western Digital drive that originally came with that card?

Joejon - Did you ever run the speed test in Scenalyzer? Download the FREE demo from scenalyzer.com and run the speed test.

Western Digital support recommended paritioning the drive, but before I did that I reinstalled the drivers for the controller in case they had become corrupted. That didn't seem to make a difference. I checked to make sure I had the cables hooked up correctly as I did with the first drive. I also changed the jumper from the farthest right pin connections to the pins just to the left. I haven't captured a lot, but what I did capture was fine without any dropped frames. I will need to do more testing to make sure that it's working fine now. It seems like changing the jumper made the difference. Like I said, I'm not not computer knowledgeable like many of you, so I try things without really understanding why. I'm not sure why this made a difference, but it seems to have solved the problem (so far). With computers so complicated with a million hardware and software configurations, it's hard to tell sometimes what's causing the problems. We seem to blame the software that we're using first, but in this case it had nothing to do with Vegas or it's capture capabilities. Thanks for all the input into this matter. All my drives are in DMA mode now, including the DVD writer drive, which was in PIO mode and was unable to be changed until I deleted the registry entries (Edin1 suggestion, which I also don't understand how it worked). Hopefully my future captures will be fine. Thanks again for all the help.

I thought the problem was solved. I captured some video with no problems, as indicated in my last post. Now I'm starting to get dropped frames again. I did the Speed Test from the Sclive program (as suggested) and it gave the results "able to write 446.8 frames per second". My origingal second hard drive was 180GB, the replacement one is 200GB. Is there some setting in Vegas or the Capture program that I should check; maybe somethings not set right?

I seriously doubt if Vegas is the problem, especially because you stated in your original post that it worked fine before changing the hard disk.

Since you got Scenalyzer, try capturing with that tool.

I have a canon GL2 and if I accidentally leave the analog to digital mode on while capturing, I drop frames. I'm not sure if this is a problem with other cameras but you might want to check it out.
