dropped frames

Some friends of mine have bought sont vegas 6(basic edition) they are having big problems with dropped frames, tried my camera and firewire cable, the same thing happened, sony help line didint really solve problem, computer is only 2 years old plenty of room and ram, anyone else been having the same problem let me know if you have any ideas as to what to do

Defrag the hard drive?

Defragging will make no noticeable difference at all. Make sure there are no other processes running on the computer. Thinks like virus scanners are notoriously uncooperative with VidCap.

Download the free program ENDITALL. This will stop most of the programs that are continually running in the background and allow your computer to use its power just for your editing.
I also had a problem with dropped frames and found out it was a bad firewire port. replaced the firewire and it worked fine.
