Dropped Frames

Hi.
I've just had to replace my PC - my old one literally went up in smoke-there was so much I thought a steam engine had just gone past!
Having re-installed Vegas Movie Studio HD Platinum Production Suite v.322, I found that when capturing video from my DV camcorder it was dropping some frames. Nothing drastic - on average around 20 frames per hour of video, but annoying nevertheless, and it shouldn't happen. I had no problems with my old PC. Can anyone offer an explanation and/or advice?
Specs:-
Previous PC :-
6 Years old
Windows XP SP 3
Intel Pentium D dual core (can't remember speed!)
ATI Radeon X600 dedicated graphics card 256Mb
4Gb RAM

New PC:-
Windows 7 Home premium SP 1 64 bit
Intel i5-2320 3GHz Quad core
AMD Radeon HD6670 dedicated graphics card 2Gb
8Gb RAM

I would have thought the present spec. was more than enough to handle the video capture.
The only other thing that's changed is previously capture was by Firewire, but the new PC is only USB (2 I think). Could this be the problem?
Also, Belarc Advisor reports "no memory cache" - what's this and is it a factor?
It also reports "not hyper-threaded".
Also, is VMS 64 bit or 32 bit? If it's 64, does it recognise the OS and adjust automatically or do I have to do something?
Any help/suggestions would be very much appreciated.
Thanks a lot,
Steve.

Yes, you will need a true FireWire connection to properly capture miniDV footage, Steve. Even plugging a FireWire adapter into a USB3 socket won't do it.

32 bit.

Quote steveq "Also, is VMS 64 bit or 32 bit?"

As stated, 32 bit although when I asked this question on several computer forums with a view to upgrading my own PC, the reply I received from several VMS users is that it works just fine on a 64bit machine; or at least it does on theirs.
