Dropped frames during capture

JakeDaSnake wrote on 11/18/2002, 7:51 AM
I recently bought an ADVC100 analog to digital converter. Heard great reviews about this product, no dropped frames and audio sync was true. Well I can't figure out why I get so many dropped frames with this thing.
I defragged my drive, very little running in the background, no anti virus software. I'm using VF to capture.
Is there an update I might be missing here?

Any help would be greatly appreciated
Specs are:
P4 2.8gig
1 gig of ram
120 gig hard drive
128radeon 9700

Thx Randy

Has it actually dropped frames or is it just reporting that frames have been dropped? Some people find the error message is lying and just ignore it.

Good luck.

Well thats a good question, I'm not sure. I captured about 40 minutes of video with it reporting 488 frames dropped. I didn't even bother to watch the video because I thought this was too much.

Jake

View the actual video after capturing.
I always see many frames dropped following a capture. However, the resultant AVI always looks excelent.
I've had to assume from this that either VF is lying about the # of frames dropped, or my understanding of the meaning of "Frames Dropped" is different then VF's.

40 minutes is about 72,000 frames, so dropping 488 frames is only 0.7%, which isn't unreasonable. It may be undesirable, but as long as they don't all happen in a large group you might not notice them at all. The erroneous counts that most people see are more along the lines of dropping half a million frames in a few minutes, which obviously can't be true.

I will check the video out tonight to see if is ok.
Here's another question;
When you set up your video properties; I selected to capture to my 120gig HD but I'm wondering about the temp folder, what does this do....should i have this set up to my 120gig hd as well?
