I had a similar problem. Depending on your OS, make sure "DMA" is activated on your drive. That fixed it for me.

Beyond that make sure you are capturing your video to a dedicated drive---make sure that drive is defragmented often---you should really not have dropped frames---if you tell us how you are set up we can probably get more specific.

I have a case that drop frames on capture which is due to bad firewire cable.
IF you have defrag harddisk, cut of all background job like antivirus, printer
monitoring program and still have drop frames, then worth trying a new firewire
cable.
