DSR-250 & PD-150 not recognized for capture

Trying to capture with either SONY cam direct to IntelPC/Vegas 5 in studio (also wanting to use DV Rack and posted this at their forum). PC/Vegas 5 does not recognize SONY cams in VTR or Record mode.
Used same firewire cable to connect external harddrive and PC recognizes it! Firewire card works with every other firewire product as does firewire cable.
Anyone had this experience and know the solution?

Am I going to have to use a DSR-11 VTR between the camcorder and the PC?

I'm hoping there's something very simple that I'm overlooking here...but I've run through both cam menus and everything appears to be OK.

Any suggestions?

Are you running XP or 2K?
I regularly have much the same problem with DSR-11, thing is it's not a Vegas problem, XP doesn;t see the device so VidCap will not see it as a result. Try unpluing and pluging the 1394 connection with everything powered up, that seems to get XP to see the device.
