Typical distribution for the 5.1 maestro - is THAT the disc contains 5.1 - how it is played out is up to to the hardware switch at playback - either a hardware set-top optical disc player firmware or an external audio amplifier (hi-fi) allows the mutliplex back to stereo delivery. Keep it simple.

Finally had a minute to look at the video you posted. My first impression is that the audio delivery is clipped, distorted, and overcompressed, and not at all a good example of what you said you are trying to achieve.

Timeline analysis bears this out. Clipped from end-to-end, about a 2dB dynamic range, and fully 12dB too loud for any broadcast purposes, should it ever be headed that way. The band is pretty good ;?)

I have absolutely no idea how you could fault the Dolby AC3 encoder by using reference material such as this; in particular, how could any encoder impact "dynamic range" when there is none to begin with?

With all respect for your wide-eyed ambition, you have jumped into the middle of the production process, without any apparent regard for the critical first steps, which are proper miking, recording, limiting. and mixing. Once you've got those refined and mastered, and are using the proper encoder settings, maybe then one could begin to discuss the minor idiosyncrasies of various surround encoders.

Until then . . .

[EDIT] In case a +0.1dB peak looks unusual, the true peak meter caught an intersample event by virtue of oversampling.

When you're ready, grasshopper.
You see, it's about learning, not winning.

Shouldn't it be advice?

I was not going to respond to your YouTube analytical analysis of the highly compressed stereo website mix. (very strange for you to put that much effort into it) I could have made that chart in Sound Forge and Photoshop to make a point, should I say win. (Is that what you think this all about?) This whole scenario is starting to get out of hand. Your opinion border lines on insulting not a critical analysis. But I was willing to let it go beacuse I asked you to do it. But your last reply was uncalled-for.

Grasshopper means student and I am not your student. Yout teaching skills are coming across too strong and are lacking. The statement also sounds very immature. If you want to be a Sensei in your mind you must learn to encourage and nourish one's mind. You went there I didn't. And let's have a reality check here, your opinion along with mine means nothing.

You might respond with if you can't stand the heat get out of the kitchen. My friend, there never was a kitchen.

It is only software. It is not about curing cancer and not about saving a starving child.
If you read my original post, I was just asking about some updates. It is my fault for getting drawn into this. I take full responsibility for my replies. If it makes you feel better I will say uncle because in the scheme of life that also means nothing. I was always courteous to you. There is something mental going on here and I don't want any part of it.

I will not respond to your replies anymore. So if you want the last word here is your chance and I know you will take it. Peace & Love I am out.

Where we came in was a list of questions re SCS's future plans. The answer to that is the same as to "when is the next version of Vegas due, what will be its new features, what old features will be broken and what bugs will be fixed".

Those that tell don't know and those that know can't tell.
