Dual Display video Card

Anyone have some recommendations for a decent video card that has dual display? I know most have a CRT and a DVI-I out but can you use them both at the same time for true dual display? I'd love to move some of windows over to a second monitor. Are there any cards that have a CRT out and 2 DVI-I outs so I can run 2 LCDs eventually?

Thanks.

Yes you can------You dont need to spend loads of money--Lots of people like the Matrox cards---I have been using their 550 for years and love it---I bought mine for under 100 bucks.

Matrox Millenium 650 will give you 2 LCDs if my rememberance is right. And you can even add a 3rd screen adaptor eventually, if you need more screen space.

Newegg has about 150 video cards listed if you do a search for dual.

The Matrox 550 is below $100 there. I used dual monitors on a GeForce4 MX440 (the chipset is Nvidia, but the cards are sold under different brand names) and there have a couple of those for about $50. Users can post reviews of every product Newegg sells, so you can see if other folks like it. Just remember for Vegas you don't care so much about gaming performance. A lot of people like the Matrox cards for editng because Matrox is known for displaying text very well.

Unless someone has the skinny on Vegas 6 utilizing hardware acceleration, you can still get by with a couple of $5 PCI cards and accomplish the exact same thing as a more expensive dual head card. Until I upgraded my card for other apps, I used a secondary PCI card that I got at a surplus shop for $5. Need MORE screen? Add another card...and another and another until you run out of PCI slots. Heck, for $25 you can have a 5 foot timeline!!

I have the Matrox Millenium 650 which has dual DVI's. Also has an analogue adapter so that you can have a CRT hooked up. Before I got two LCDs, I had a CRT monitor and a LCD hooked up. Dualies work fine this way, though two identical monitors are best. Can't imagine life without dualies now!

Hello,
I am working with a 20" inch Syncmaster and a 35 inch TV with tons of interfaces on the back (NTSC,S-Vidieo and RGB, and PAL). I push both signals through an INVidia GEForce 440mx agpx (about 67.00 US).
I know that you are correct in going for an expensive card, (my wishes also), but as goshep said above on card in the agp and one in a pci works great!
Best Wishes and please let me know what you choose, wishing for one of the new all in wonders I am, Marty.

Can I use this video card (Nvidia-FX5500-TD256 256 Mb of Memory)
to "PREVIEW ON EXTERNAL MONITOR" in real time?? (Using Vegas 5)

Thank you for your reply

Yes you can use it to preview real time but bear this in mind:
1. Vegas does not utilize hardware acceleration for video output. Your preview quality will be dependent on several factors (none of which relate to the type of card) such as CPU speed, preview quality settings and number of effects on the timeline. As you add effects, transitions, etc. your preview quality will degrade rapidly.

2. Previewing on a CRT or LCD monitor is not the same as previwing on an external NTSC video monitor. What you see in terms of color, contrast, etc. will be significantly different than what the final product will look like when viewd on a television. If your budget is tight, you can substitute the NTSC monitor with a color television.

I have V4 but I think this still applies. The answere to your question is no. You can view your preview screen on a second monitor without any problem. If you want to make the preview larger, go to Options, preference, video, and check the box " display at project size". ( sorry if this is different on V5 ). But if your viewing on a monitor connected to your graphics card it does not fit the discription " external monitor" That is done as output through the firewire card. I use my dv camera to pass that to a TV monitor.
