Dual/multi monitor systems

Just wondering what the collective wisdom is among users when combining multiple monitors for editing:

Is it better to have two monitors of the same size and resolution, or does mixing it up work just as well, e.g. 22" wide screen and 19" 4:3? They would both be standard'ish LCD monitors.

All feedback appreciated.

Thanks,

marks

Lots of variables here for sure.

In your example I'd use the widescreen monitor for your timeline because it's longer.

Multiple monitors allow you to configure your editing interface so it makes logical sense to you. I think there was a post here quite some time ago where people discussed their preferences as to what went where on each monitor as well as some photos. Some editors use more than 2 monitors. Some use 24" or larger single screen setups at a high resolution so you can see more areas on the screen at once.

There's no single right way to configure your setup you have to adjust it to your work flow.

Right now I run 3 monitors 1- 22" LCD widescreen (main timeline and preview monitor)
1- 17" LCD ( has all my tools that are normaly in the dock
1- 19" CRT for my full screen preview monitor ( crt because of more acurate color) I love the setup and it works great. I also have used up all 9 of my window presets for different setups depending on what I am doing. I do wish that my main screen was a 24 or 25" LCD to give even more room for the timeline. maybe next year. I wish i could post a picture of my screen setup. if you would like to see it send me an email.
Good Luck and like they say once you have multiple monitors you can never go back to 1 :-)

I'd have a hard time going back to one monitor full time. I'll use only one or just my laptop LCD if I'm training but for my studio - dual 22" wides and a 24" for external monitor / laptop external.

Spend the extra $$ and get the best panel you can afford though. When I first bought LCDs years ago, I bought some cheapies from Circuit City - had them on for 15 minutes and had a migraine shortly after. Do some research on the panels used in the various brands (lots of great information to be had here in this forum too).

Loves me my duals though.
