Dubbing Analog Film

The strangest thing! I've transferred some old 8mm cassette film out of a video camcorder and recoreded it directly into my DV camera (Panasonic NV-MX7) and moved it into Vegas for editing.

The video and audio transferred reasonably well however on playback in Vegas there is a continuous, regular and constant loud clicking noise much the same as a very loud ticking clock! This sound continues all the while the film plays and is not affected by change the sound track volume - seems to be imbedded in the film rather than an audio issue, so to speak.

Has anyone got any thoughts on this please?

does the 8mm tape give you the trouble when you play it from the video camcorder directly to speakers? (you mean video-tape, not standard-8/super-8 etc celluloid - right? (you later said video camcorder))

Have you tried using both camcorders in their battery operated mode with no other connections going to mains attached kit. I'd hope the DV camcorder wasn't also dubbing down the Mic input.

If it is only present on the DV camcorder recording, then it might be a fault that perhaps wouldn't show up using the routed signal from the microphone (something between the line input jack and the automatic gain control of the audio section perhaps). Have you tried anything else into the DV camcorder, e.g. tuner output of your domestic VCR etc?

I don't think this a normal gotcha. On any other NLE than Vegas, I might have asked if your project audio settings were 44k1, then with your DV being 48k, there could be a regular loud click.

It's a metronome used to help synchronize the video to audio.

There is a checkbox to turn this off under properties (one of the tab thingies).

....naaaa, I'm just sh**in' ya!! I have no idea what it is!! :-)

Just for fun, pull down the options menu and look for "Metronome"; it's about 2/3 of the way down. Is this selected? If so, click on it to turn it off.
