During playback the video freezes but the audio continues

Running Vegas 19 Pro using a i7 Dell with 32 G Ram. I've been using Platinum 17 without issues. I'm relatively new, so forgive my ignorance. Don't really know where to start. My main problem is that during regular playback the video freezes about 10 seconds in but the audio continues. I have to shut down and restart....grrr! I post these videos to YouTube and wonder should my project settings be 1920X1080 30 fps or 1280X720 & 30 and must all the videos match these settings when in the timeline? Thank you for your time! The screen turns gray and you never get an error dialog. Yes, I've seen that happen too. It just continues playing until you hit the space bar, the audio stops, and boom - it will no longer do anything until you kill it and restart. Two things I've found that seems to help: 1) save often so you can get back the changes you've just made and 2) SLOW DOWN. It seems to happen to me mostly when I changing things, playing, stopping, change, play, boom. Put a pause between the steps.

Finally, are you doing speed changes (i.e. changing the playback rate or CTRL-Drag changing the length)? That seems like it can affect it as well.
