You can try the workaround proposed in Vegas knowledge base and see if it works for you or uninstall sp2 and wait for the official the driver update.

Well, uninstalling SP2 won't be an option since I did a fresh install from a slipstreamed install disk. Maybe I can find the MSDV.SYS file on my original SP1 install disk and get that to work.

And it seems like the work around doesn't want to work. It keeps asking for me to insert the SP2 CD.

I've sent a question to Microsoft. Maybe they'll give a good solution.

If the system keeps asking for the SP2 CD it means that the driver is not found or it is not installed correctly.
And this will happen if after uninstalling the driver and after accepting the Windows prompt to restart the computer you let the machine boot normally into Windows and not in safe mode.
Is this the case or it occurs after you have finished with the required steps in the process?

I may have let it boot up normaly first. But the device wasn't plugged in so I figured it wouldn't matter. Then I went back into safe mode to do the copying and renaming. If I can get Windows XP to install the newest SP2 driver then I might try the work around again.

Microsoft got back to me and basicly said that Sony needed to release some new drivers that were compatible with SP2. Microsoft's only suggestion if Sony doesn't have new drivers yet is to uninstall SP2 and wait for the updates. So I guess it's Sony's ball at the moment. I've written Sony to ask them about it. We'll see what they say.

For what it's worth, Scenalyzer (SCLive) also has problems with SP2.

It captures fine, but the tape End Search does not work.

I confirmed this with the Scenalyzer creator and he will be issuing an update "soon."

So, there certainly seems to be problems with some firewire components and the release of SP2.

Oh yes. BIG problems with SP2 and wierd ones too. My Sony DHR1000 wouldn't work (capture saying NO TAPE) but the DSR11 worked fine. Uninstalled SP2 and we're back to heaven again!

Sure glad to see your posting. I have a pair of DHR1000's with the same problem. If you turn on the error messages you'll probably see it reporting "Communication Error". Unfortunately returning to SP1 isn't an option in my case. I've been using the Nero 6 vdieo capture for now. I wonder if there is any hope Sony will fix the problem. After all, the DHR1000 is their product. Not too much to ask to have it work with their software.

I know this is a post to an old message, but I just had this problem with a clean install of sp2 and I didn't see a work around in the message list.

I tried following the instructions in the knowledge base about this problem and like other people windows wants the sp2 cd upon reboot after following the instructions. Windows then changes the msdv.sys file back to the new version that doesn't work. I finally stumbled on a way to force the use of the sp1 sys file.

Instead of being in safe mode be in normal mode. Do the copy and paste as suggested in the knowledge base instructions. Windows will get upset with what your trying to do but will give you the option of doing it anyway by asking you if you want to continue with the paste operation. By saying yes the msdv.sys file that you want will finally stick.
