100% or fully OHCI compliant IEEE 1394 device

I assumed of course you are talking about just a basic "firewire" interface card which along with a digital camera is all you really need. You do not need a seperate DVD card that may also do hardware based encoding. Maybe I'm wrong, but I get the impression you may have been thinking about something other that the very basic and cheap card with your use of entry level. They type of card I'm referring to can be found from many sources in the $40 price range.

I'd go with TI. They've been in the IC business for a long time. I know VIA more for cruddy motherboard chipsets, and I've never heard of Agere. TI is well-known for their integrated circuitry, so expect stability and compatibility with them. Also, I wouldn't recommend a product I don't already use. =)

I use a D-Link firewire card which uses the TI chipset. I've never had a compatibility problem with it. It works great.
