DV Format difference

Hi all

I have a project I captured (via Firewire) to Vegas 4 PAL DV 720x576) that was originally recorded on the larger DV format - I gather the only difference is tape speed.

When viewed in the preview mode there are black lines (about 10 pixels) down each side with around 5 pixels at the top.

I have Simulate device asperct ratio selected. Is there any other reason I should get these lines. Will they show on the resultant DVD when view on a TV?

Thanks

What kind of camera? Some cameras don't fill thefull screen, or rather blank out part of the screen.
This will show, yes, if viewed on a computer screen, but not on a television screen. You can always crop the pixels out if you are concerned.

Not sure of the camera used as I paid someone to video my parent's 50th wedding anniversary party

It was copied on to miniDV tape by a freind direct from DVCAM to miniDV. But what I have noticed is that the lines are only visible dureing some sections only. Maybe the videographer played around with setting during the evening.

It's not a major problem I just wanted to know if it was something I could have averted or not.

Thanks.

I know my Canon XL-1 leaves about 6 pixels on both the left and right side black.

Thanks.

At least I know it's not me or my system/apps.

Cheers

Just remember, like Spot said, you can crop the pixels out. This is handy to keep in mind if you do any PIP or screen shots - get rid of the black, because it will show in those cases.

I like to add a blurred border when I do the pip. Works great in most of my circumstances.

Sometimes you can go into the Pan/Crop and DeSelect 'Maintain Aspect Ratio' and this will fill your frame. I do this a lot when mixing different source material. But only do this if you have a little stretching to do. If you have a lot of stretching to do it will distort your picture. Try it... if it is not noticeable... you're cured.
