DV out vs AV out

I just got VF after much struggle to get my family video out using other methods. I own a sony digital 8 camcorders, bundle with it is a AV cable. After getting my first VCD running smoothly my only comment would be - why is my video seems blurry? Then I found out that the USB streaming cable output is not what digital editing meant for. So then, I did some research on iLink cable but my Pen3 800, 256 MB, 20Gb notebook was not equiped with any IEEE 1394 port or what ever.

Question:

1- Will this IEEE 1394 connection guarantees a better, higher resolutions?
2- What is out there that will enable my notebook to be coonected via IEEE 1394?
3- When I capture the video via IEEE 1394 cable, in what format is the import video?
4- Do I still need to play the video end-to-end while I am importing or will it be faster?

Major geek, huh?

Anyone got me answer, appreciate your help, tq.

ps - Find no other - VF the editor !!

Firewire is the best method for dv capture and ptt. It's to do with the amount of data it can handle quickly. This link may be helpful to you:

VF captures in avi (uncompressed files), and when you've finished you can render in avi, mpeg1 or 2 (and mpeg4 I think).

First of all - many thanks for your reply. Great link. Wow, there are plenty of choices. I wonder who is the lucky one.

Anyway, my editing experience with VF is still in its early years but will the firewire somehow improve 'my editing time' or can it enhance VF functionality? Is there any big difference during editing the video as compare to not using firewire? (other than the 400Mbps transfer rate)

Thank you very much.
