And well Vegas gets it wrong even though it's right mathematically because all video dimensions must be even numbers so it should be 1048x576, not 1049x576.

Ulf, there is no definitive answer to your question. The “correct” number of horizontal pixels depends on the application you use. Some examples: In Vegas and VirtualDub the “correct” answer is 1048 x 576 pixels. In Adobe Premiere (Elements) the “correct” answer is 1024 x 576 pixels. In general: the number of horizontal pixels is equal to the pixel aspect ratio (PAR) used in the application you are using, multiplied by 720 (for PAL DV). Bob, yup on the even numbers.

I remember being very amused when i wrote that map-line making program and got chastised for making the output 654x480 instead of 655. Both numbers are almost equally wrong, but at least 654 is even.
