DV Tape Plays scrambled

Dear VV users,

Have ever recorded in a DV format, and the recording appeared to had went fine, but when you played back the footage the video was scrambled.

I am experiencing this. When view my tape, I can see the footage, but it will have horizontal, almost narrow pixelated lines goes acroos distorting the picture and sound.

I believe it is the tape and not the player. I put the same tape in two cameras and it does the same thing. Then put different tape in the same two cameras and the footage appeared just fine.

Have you corrected this problem before?

Any help is always appreciated.

Thank you,

Chad

I have had this happen, but very rarely. Usually a small speck of dirt rolls over the head and you get a digital garbel at that spot. If the dirt stays on the head you are pretty much screwed unless you clean it. One of the issues overall is that when you shoot you really are not looking at what is coming off the tape - you are looking at what is going into the tape. I wish all camera had a switch like higher end tape decks used to have to monitor incoming or outgoing signal.

Corrected it? Not on the tape. In post you could fix it up.

Alright well after doing a little more research I have found that my issue is referred to as a "mosaic" noise.

You are absolutely right, dirt can be a reason for this as well as recording in "LP" mode, which I was.

I have cleaned my heads and eventually the problem went away.

Thanks
