I have figured it out. After playing the DVD in a third player, it iturns out that it is actually the correct aspect ratio. I'll have to change the settings on the other two players to not show the letterboxing.

Thanks.

What type of TVs are you playing this on -- widescreen or standard?

If they're standard 4:3 televisions, you want the content to be letterboxed. Playing 16:9 video so that it's displayed fullscreen on a 4:3 television...will be distorted.

It is correct now - letterboxed on 4:3, and full on 16:9. Initially, I was seeing letterboxed on the 16:9. My error.

Depends on the DVD player's settings. Some have a zoom setting that chops off the left/right. Some also have a pan/scan option which is fairly useless with home burned DVDs.

Also most widescreen TVs also have zoom functions, too, but I would only use this as an option since stretching a letterboxed 16:9 would be even less resolution.
