Anyway - It's JVC, they don't have the best record - I've not used it but I've looked at it, thought it might be a good one, but still, I'm just plain leary of JVC.
For the past 2 years, I've used 2 of it's predecessors (DV550U) at the college I work for and have been very happy with them. The 5000 has several new features (larger tape handling, etc.) that are a very nice touch.
My only caveat would be to get something other than the standard lens (14:1) as it leaves a lot to be desired. We went with 20:1 Canons and don't regret the extra cost.

Iām using the JVC 5000U form time to time and have used 5 five different 5000U as well.
Yes the JVC record is not good. The key is not getting a lemon. We had 3 of the 5 cams at different times have to be sent back. We even got a loner 5000 cam while we sent in a camera.
Funny note from the JVC tech is that the CCDs are Sony made chips.
So if you like what the 5000U camera does ā get all the warrantee cover you can get. :}
