DVD AND SOUND- USING MPEG2

A.J. wrote on 10/20/2006, 8:39 AM
Hey all,

I've burned my first DVD using DVD ARCT., I rendered my file as DVD ARC.24p dvd widescreen, and in audio tab, selected "include audio file" which after rendering, the video and audio is now an mpeg2 file...

Anyway, the sound quality of the dvd is not good...Am I supposed to just render the video only as an mpeg2 and render the audio separately as an AC3 file and drag it into DVD ARCT.?

I'm not sure on the proper protocol, and the manual is not clear...any advice would be appreciated!!! Thanks -AJ

Separate renders (video& audio) are generally recommended. As long as you render both files to the same folder AND give them the same name (myvideo.mpg & myvideo.AC3), DVDA will automatically load the audio as sonn as you load the video.

What settings did you use for the AUDIO?

MPEG audio can sound good if the right settings are used.
From what I can tell, the only reason to do separate audio.video renders is if you want sound other than MPEG.

It seems that when I selected DVD arch 24p widescreen (mpeg2)the default setting does not include audio, so I clicked the audio tab and checked the box to include audio in the rendering, and as far as the settings, I just left them as is in the default mode...

So you are saying I could go into those settings and tweek it for better sound as an mpeg2?

I really wouldn't no where to start, as far as changing the settings, if you have any ideas-- great! thanks

Thanks for the info, esp with letting me no about keeping the file the same name-- very helpful...Thanks! I'll try it -AJ

MPEG audio can sound good if the right settings are used.

That's all essentially moot when working with DVD Architect since it's going to re-encode any MPEG audio as AC3 or PCM, depending on your DVDA project. DVDA will accept MPEG audio as input, but it will not put MPEG audio in the final product.

Check this thread out for AC3 settings

The idea is that you have to alter a couple of settings and save the new configuration as a template with a name you choose. Then, from your timeline, render to mpeg2 - DVDA template and render again to AC3 - your template. Give the main render file the same name, and DVDA will import them together.

I forgot to ask, have they fixed this in version 7?

"Check this thread out for AC3 settings."

Those settings you're mentioning: in Vegas 7, both Line Mode Profile and RF Mode Profile are under Dynamic Range Compression options. I'm guessing they both would still be "none"? Any other changes with Vegas 7 to get an AC-3 rendering to have a normal volume?
