My understanding is that SOFO does not intend to sell this as a stand alone--I petitioned for the same option, but to no avail. I think there would be a broader appeal for the product if it was a stand alone option, with many shying away due to the added expense of purchasing another NLE.

I don't believe it ever was available as a stand-alone.

Thats a real shame. I upgraded from Video Factory to VV3 about a month ago (the best bargain I've gotten in a LONG time). I guess I should have waited and upgraded to VV4 instead.

It wasn't available as a fully functional commercial product as a stand alone, but the beta trial that I used for 3 weeks was a stand alone.

Is it still possible to download the beta? I would rather use a Sonic Foundry beta than version 10 of one of the Mickey Mouse consumer programs, if you know what I mean. I have become one of FS's biggest fans.

I don't know if you can still download the beta or not. Ac3 encoding was disabled, and you couldn't output to disc and a variety of other things, so it was difficult to see exactly what the functionality and stability of the product was in it's beta form.

McGeedo,

I think SoFo is offering a free upgrade to Vegas 4 if you upgraded to VV3 in the last 3 weeks. I don't know all the details, but I saw something like that around here recently. I don't know if it includes DVDA either, or how much more it would cost to get to it. But it's something..

All purchases of Vegas 3 after January 1, 2003 are entitled to a FREE upgrade to Vegas 4. If you want to also get DVD Architect, that is an additional $200. See http://www.sonicfoundry.com/rebates/vegas.asp for details.
