DVD Architect Burn Error (DVD-RW)

I have a new laptop with a 'MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-810 C100' DVD-R/DVD-RW/DVD-RAM drive installed in it internally (Packard Bell Easynote E3245 Laptop)

I have nero installed, dvd Movie Factory and Vegas+DVD

I can burn DVD-RW disks with nero and blank them fine.
I can burn DVD-RW disks with Movie Factory and blank them fine.
I cannot burn anything to the same disk when I put it into DVD Architect.
This is the error I get:

CD/DVD Operation

An unknown drive error has occured

Details:

SFMMCX'-(17)
'atapi'-(1)
-'MATSHITA DVD-RAM UJ-810 C100'-(0)
Module sfmmcx.cpp Line 386
An illegal request was received.

I have looked up other posts about this but I have rendered the file and it is only about 1GB in size. It is these folders I am burning with nero (ie the rendered files that Architect has produced in its 'temp' folder) Nero burns the data just fine.

What is up with Architect - does it not support this drive?
Its a bit annoying to have to use Nero to burn the data that Arthictect should be
burning itself.

Any ideas?

Using Windows XP Home by the way. All drivers/OS up to date.

I just opened up a brand new DVD-RW disk and tried again - same result!
You press burn and within 2 seconds the drive has ejected with the above error.

FOLLOW UP

I was feeling brave and inserted a new DVD-R disk instead - again I got the same
above error.

For the benefit of others who may see this in the future... I just wasted hours until I managed to fix this myself...

The fault is either a missing or (as in my case) a corrupt ADAPTEC ASPI software layer.

I downloaded the latest one (which is now free from Adaptec) and it instantly (on reboot) fixed my problem.

My laptop is now happily burning away to that same DVD-RW disk as I write!

To get the ASPI software go to www.adaptec.com
SUPPORT
DOWNLOADS
SCSI Software (Don't worry if you're devices are all IDE - same here!)
WINDOWS ASPI Package

I used
11/23/02 Windows ASPI drivers version v4.71.2
ASPI v4.71.2 for Windows 98, NT 4, Me, 2000 and XP

Important to read the README file - you need to read up on how to install it.

Problem fixed 100%!!!

Or rather 90% fixed!!

It happened again! arghhhh! Architect would spit disk out within 2 seconds of pressing burn.. Anyway, a reboot "fixed" it again... Here's hoping... (I think I had used Nero inbetween times to blank off my DVD-RW - maybe that was the cause - reboot fixed anyway!).
