DVD Architect Crashes at startup

superboiler wrote on 11/10/2005, 7:19 PM
I have DVD Architect but have never been able to get it to run. It crashes at start up with some sort of ntdll.dll error. I have contacted technical support but they have been no help after over four months of exchanging information. This all started with version 2. Version 3 does the same thing.

Not happy to see this post. I just bought the software and I'm getting exactly the same error.

It looks as if something is interfering with DVD on initializing. You could go to your task manager and end processes on all items that are not related to the system and see if that gets you anywhere. If not, go to Start, Run, and type in "msconfig" hit enter and go to startup. Uncheck everything, hit okay and restart. All system startup items should automatically recheck themselves and the other items should not. double click dvda and see if it will work. This should allow you to see if anything has interferred with DVDA.
Give it a try,

j razz

Don't give up on it yet, I don't know about studio but the pro version is great and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Sorry to hear you're having problems and technical support is leaving you in the cold. No solution here just some more info to check after you tried the advice given by j razz

http://search.microsoft.com/search/results.aspx?qu=ntdll.dll&View=en-us

Also if you google ''ntdll.dll' you will find lots of other possible solutions ranging from uninstalling the virusscanner, installing software with the correct windows account, having windows XP up to date etc.

Thanks for the reponses! I tried unchecking everything in msconfig and I still got the same error. I'm going to try booting the software with an external DVD drive in.

I rebooted my IBM laptop with the DVD Multi+ out, no DVD drive at all, still get the error. So the thought was that I had something conflicting with the DVD drive, but I get the error when there is no DVD drive.

Ok, got it to startup. It appears that this error is related to the permissions that you have when you log in. When I log in as an administrator to the local PC with no domain controller, it starts up. When I login with my id associated with a domain controller at work, does not start, even the system administrator got the error.

So the problem is definitely related to some form of permissions or access tied to the login id.

One last point, the problem is not related to who installs the software. When I install the software as a user accessing the domain controller, only local administration users can run the software without getting the ntdll.dll error.

Wow, this appears to the problem with me as well.

I checked it on one work computer by logging in as admin and it worked! Nine months after buying the software, it finally works.

This would seem to be a major oversight by the developers.

Only one problem left. My work laptop still crashes as it has the main admin account disabled. Unfortunately, I can't get into these settings. Any ideas on how to handle this?
jrazz wrote on 12/2/2005, 6:48 PM
You should be able to go into safe mode, disable the admin account or add a new adminstrative account.

A simple solution though would be to get your system administrator to set permissions for you to use DVDA on that system.
